Police arraign truck driver for stealing N3m bags of fertilizer

The police at Area Command Western Ports Tin Can Island on Tuesday arraigned Aliyu Haruna (26) before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N3 million bags of fertilizer at Apapa.

Haruna is facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The port prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 15, 2019 at about 10:30am at Taka Company, Wharf, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal 600 bags of fertilizer product valued at N3 million property of Taka Company, Wharf, Apapa,” Balogun said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate O.S Aboiye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till April 15, 2019 for mention.
