Two men namely, Ifeanyi Chigozie (43) and Chukwuebuka Daniel (24) were on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa
Magistrates’ Court for allegedly damaging an American barb wire in Lagos.
Chigozie and Daniel are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, willful damage, stealing and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on February 1, 2019 at about 10:15am at Km 23, Badagry Expressway, Maza-Maza, Kuje Amuwo, Lagos.
“The defendants conspired together with others at large to wilfully and unlawfully damaged one iron barb wire valued at N80,000, 8 galvanized poles valued at N100,000 and American barb wire valued at N120,000. Total value of damged items worth N300,000 properties of Constant Link Ventures Nig. Ltd,” Bassey said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendants stole one Tecno K7 phone valued at N36,000, one Tecno WH3 phone valued at N21,000 and one recommended eye glasses valued at N21,000. Total value of items stolen worth N85,000 properties of one Nicolas Udulkue.
Bassey said the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by engaging themselves to display in public place with dangerous weapons to scare away staff and passengers of Constant Link Ventures Transport Company.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 350, 287 and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Magistrate A.S Okubule granted the defendants bail in the sum of N400,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till March 4, 2019 for mention.
