Police arraign two men for selling fake tickets

The police on Thursday arraigned two men — Michael Moses (21) and Habeeb Awori (20) — before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly selling fake tickets to motorcyclists, popularly known as okada riders, in Apapa.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on April 13, 2019 at about 10:50am at Saint Mary’s and Uzor Street, Ajegunle, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together with others at large to conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by selling fake tickets to okada riders,” Tedunjaye said.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 168 (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the two-charges bordering on conspiracy and breach of peace.

Magistrate B.M Amore granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till May 16, 2019 for mention.
