Police drag two men to Apapa court for stealing lady’s pant

The police on Thursday arraigned two men, Emmanuel Friday (21) and David Nwabueze (29), before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a lady’s pant.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Iyobosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on April 19, 2019 at about 8pm at Mile 2 area of Satellite Town, Lagos.

“The defendants had in possession a red colour female pant which they could not give satisfactory explanation on how they came about it and they conducted themselves in manner likely to cause breach of peace by fighting in public over a female pants,” Onaiwu said.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 330 and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to the Investigative Police Officer, both defendants were arrested after they engaged each other in fighting following the failure of one of the parties to keep to the terms of agreement regarding the stealing of female pant.

Meanwhile, Friday said Nwabueze tasked him to steal used female pants for a fee of N30,000. However, after he had successfully accomplished the task, Nwabueze reneged on his promise and forcefully attempted to take the pants from him, leading to exchange of blows.

Upon the not guilty plea entered by the defendants, Magistrate S.A Tolani granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till April 30, 2019 for mention.
