PTML: Agents protest working conditions

There was tension yesterday at the terminal of the Port and Terminal Multi-services Limited (PTML), Lagos, as agents operating there blamed the PTML Management for the alleged health failings of their colleagues, who were said to have fainted while waiting to collect their consignments’ Terminal Deliver Orders (TDO).
SHIPS & PORTS DAILY learnt that three agents allegedly slumped yesterday in the terminal’s Marketing Hall, which was said to have been overcrowded with agents waiting to be attended to.

Secretary, PTML Chapter of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Mr Alloy Uchegbu, told SHIPS & PORTS DAILY that the agents were enraged seeing their colleagues in such dire conditions, noting that last Friday one Adeshina Olatunji Mujitab, a member of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), allegedly died as a result of a similar circumstance of working in an “unventilated and overcrowded environment.”
Uchegbu: “Sometime last week an agent fell down and he was rushed to the hospital but he died. His obituary, as am talking to you, is out here at PTML. Today alone, three people have fainted at the Marketing Hall. The last person that fainted, I helped to put him in the ambulance and he was rushed to the hospital. So when the first person fainted and the second person fainted, agents, as a result of anger, started scattering the hall still under construction, throwing stones and damaging some glasses in the process.”
