Customs Area Controller, Port and Terminal Multi Services Limited (PTML) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Tunji Aremu, yesterday decorated 20 newly promoted officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC) II to Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC) with a call for re-dedication to the success of the 48 hours cargo clearance.
Addressing journalists shortly after the symbolic ceremony, Aremu assured that his re- appointment as the Area controller will maximize the command’s revenue collection as new measures are being put in place to ensure that all revenue loopholes are blocked.
He added that with the recent promotion, officers will also be motivated to do their jobs effectively.
“My coming on board is to make sure that our revenue level is increased, that officers do their job as expected of them and to make 48 hours realistic. And with the introduction of PAAR, I don’t see why there should be any cause for delay; those things will be things of the past. With correct declaration and due examination being carried out, there will be smooth flow of traffic of exit of containers from the ports,” he said.
While expressing appreciation to the Customs management for recognizing hard work in the service, Aremu enjoined the officers to be diligent and committed to their duties.
He said: “To whom much is given, much is expected. It is an added responsibility on their shoulders. When we joined this job, it was not like this but since the Comptroller General came on board, it has been a yearly affair. Officers are interviewed, examination taken and promotion granted. The bottom line is we have to collect much revenue and to carry out the federal government fiscal policy on trade facilitation.
