South-South media professionals pledge support to NIMASA

A group, the South-South Media Professionals, has pledged support to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to use the media to ensure that the core mandate of the agency is enforced.

The group said this when its members paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Director General, Haruna Jauro in his office.

Speaking during the visit, the leader of the delegation, Asu Beks said the association is made up of qualified media professionals who are well groomed in the coverage of the maritime sector and have promised to be available in any area their services will be needed.

He also emphasized the need for NIMASA to always furnish the media with the right information, as at when needed noting that most of the negative publicity recorded in the past years about NIMASA were as a result of a communication gap.

Jauro commended the professionals for their willingness to support the agency in executing its core functions as the regulatory body in the maritime sector. He told the delegation that a committee has been set up to look into the disbursement of the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund and to also ensure that the fund is appropriately utilised.
