Ogun Customs seizes, buries 7,072 cartons of contraband poultry products

Relentlessly waging the anti-smuggling war of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the Ogun Command is being rewarded with outstanding seizures of items being trafficked by economics saboteurs.
Lately, within a week, the Command recorded the seizure of 7,072 cartons of prohibited frozen poultry products with duty paid value (DPV) of N35,360,000.00.
Of the 7,072 seized cartons of frozen chicken and turkey parts, 6,200 cartoons had been intercepted while being conveyed in two 609 Mercedes-Benz buses.
“The seizure was made at Arankoko near Ajegunle, Idiroko in the early hours of Wednesday, 14th March, 2013, with two suspects in our custody, pending further investigation,” the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Francis Ade Dosunmu, said, adding: “Earlier, and for the past one week, the Command recorded seizures of 872 cartons of the same prohibited product.”.Noting the total 7,072 cartons seizure and the N35,360,000.00 DPV, Dosunmu explained that the two two 609 Mercedes-Benz busesand “four other means of conveyance”, which DPV, he put at N7,600,000.00, have been impounded and “constructively warehoused.”
The CAC said: “In the same vein, 347 bags of rice with DPV of N4,372,200 were seized in the Command from 1st March, 2013 till date.
“The Command is not relenting in its war on smuggling and we will continue to sustain it.”
