State of Tin Can Port road worries lawmaker

A former Chairman of Apapa Local Government, Ayodeji Joseph has expressed concern over the sorry state of the Tin Can Island Port road which has not only deteriorated but has also become a dumpsite.

Ayodeji, who is a member of the House of Representatives Committee on Port, Harbours and Waterways, called on Lagos State Government to clear the refuse around the port area.

Speaking recently in Lagos when the committee visited some maritime agencies, he decried the attitude of traders and hawkers trading around the port, noting that the unregulated activities of food vendors, stall operators and commercial motor cycle operators have contributed immensely to the poor environmental condition of the port area.

“It is important that the Lagos State Government deploy operatives of Lagos Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) to clean up the port areas and the entire Apapa vicinity and enforce environmental laws there.

“Their effort should be complemented by Seaview Properties Limited, a subsidiary of NPA which has a statutory responsibility of keeping the port environment clean,” he said.
