Tanker kills policeman in Apapa

A Police Sergeant attached to the Taskforce for dismantling tanker traffic in Apapa area of Lagos State, was on Tuesday crushed to death by a tanker.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Patricia Amadin, confirmed the incident to newsmen yesterday.

Amadin, who said the deceased was identified as Lukas Abashi, disclosed that the driver of the vehicle with number plate ANC 66 XA escaped after the accident.

She said the policeman died on the spot after the tanker ran over him.

The police image maker said the driver attempted to escape with the vehicle, but for the intervention of other members of the taskforce who used motorcycles to pursue him.

She said the policeman was on official duty as of the time of the accident, adding that the tanker has the inscription ‘TOTAL’ on it.

Amadin said the body had been deposited at the mortuary, while the tanker was taken to a police station in Apapa.

She said the police were trailing the driver.
