Terminal operator allays fears as tugboat sinks at Tin Can port

The management of Five Star Logistics Terminal at the Tin Can Island Port Complex, Lagos has said that its operations have not been disrupted after a tugboat belonging to Medlog Nigeria Limited sunk between its berths 9 and 10 operated by the terminal, while piloting a barge loaded with containers.

The incident, which occurred on June 7, happened while a vessel MSC RESILIENT III VOY ZA417A, was discharging at berth 9.

Five Star Logistics said after the incident, two roro vessels, GLOVIS SUN VOY 240S01 and SILVERSOUL VOY 24SS06 discharged 4,370 vehicles and sailed as scheduled.

The terminal’s management said the situation was handled professionally and speedily, even as it commended Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for its swift and professional response in managing the situation.

The Customer Care Manager at Five Star Logistics, Chuks Okereafor, said the ill-fated tugboat was removed on Sunday June 16, 2024, without disruption to port operation.
