Three men assault truck driver, motorboys at Kirikiri

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

Three men namely, Gboyega Ekundayo (25), Segun Fatugbo (27) and Semiu Muritala (30) were on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting truck driver and motorboys at Kirikiri.

Ekundayo, Fatugbo and Muritala are facing a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on December 4, 2018 at about 8pm along Okoduwa Street, Kirikiri.

“The defendants conspired with others at large to cause breach of peace. They assaulted one Balogun Adewale by giving him fist blow on all over his body and his right eye which caused him bodily injury,” Obongha said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendants assaulted one Faruk Ganiyu by giving him a club on his back which caused him bodily injury. They also maliciously and unlawfully damaged the windscreen and side mirror of a Mack Track with registration number LSD 433 XA valued at N100,000 property of one Frauk Ganiyu.

Obongha added that the defendants assaulted one Ayo Damilola by hitting and beating him all over his body which caused him injury on his chin. They also assaulted one Wasiu Yusuf by hitting him with a bottle on his head and all over his body which caused him bodily harm. They stole one Tecno phone valued at N37,000 belonging to Wasiu Yusuf.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 44, 173, 350 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Magistrate S.O Abioye granted the defendants bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till December 17, 2018 for mention.
