Tragedy Strikes in Sokoto: 25 Dead, Many Missing in Boat Accident

Two migrants dead after boat capsizes near Croatian border

A devastating boat accident has occurred in the Wamakko local government area of Sokoto state, resulting in the loss of 25 lives.

The incident happened at the weekend when a canoe carrying approximately 40 passengers, mostly women and children, capsized on the Dundaye River.

The victims were en route to their farms across the river when the canoe suddenly overturned. Local swimmers managed to rescue 15 people, but 25 others are still missing, with search efforts ongoing.

Nasir Garba Kalambaina, Special Adviser to the Sokoto State Governor on State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the incident and reported that a rescue operation team, including officials from the National Emergency Management Agency, has been deployed to the scene.

According to Kalambaina, the boat accident was caused by the overflow of River Dundaye, which flooded the area.

The rescue operation is currently underway, with hopes of finding more survivors.
