The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Oyo/Osun Area Command, has announced the heartbreaking loss of Superintendent of Customs (SC) Kabiru Tijani, his wife, and four of their children in a tragic fire incident that occurred at their residence in Ede, Osun State.
A statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Kayode Wey, confirmed that the fire broke out in the early hours of Monday, December 2, 2024, around 3:00 a.m., engulfing the family home.
SC Kabiru Tijani, who served as the Officer in Charge of Operations for the Command, was described as a dedicated and committed officer whose tireless efforts in coordinating and executing anti-smuggling operations significantly contributed to the Command’s success. His wife, a devoted member of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) Oyo/Osun Chapter, was also praised for her positive impact on the Customs community’s welfare.
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, the Customs Area Controller, Dr. Ben Oramalugo, conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the officers and men of the Oyo/Osun Area Command. He thanked the public for their prayers and support, adding, “SC Kabiru Tijani and his family have since been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites. May the Almighty grant them Al-Janatul Firdaus and give their family the strength to endure this immense loss.”
The statement also noted that a lone child survivor from the family is receiving support and care. Additionally, the Command urged the public to disregard speculative reports surrounding the incident, affirming its commitment to investigating the circumstances and prioritizing support for the bereaved extended family.
This tragic loss has left the Customs community and the public in mourning, with many remembering SC Kabiru Tijani and his family for their contributions and dedication to service.
