Truck driver docked for stealing N180,000 in Apapa

A 37-year-old truck driver, Godswill Orji, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N180,000 from the owner of the truck identified as Ejiofor Donatus. 

Orji is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Iyobosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 28, 2019 at about 4pm at Jakande Trailer Park, Berger Suya, Olodi-Apapa.

According to prosecutor, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Upon the non-guilty plea by the defendant, Magistrate O.S Aboiye granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

In addition, the sureties must be blood relation to the defendant.

He adjourned the case till May 6, 2019 for mention.
