Two men accused of setting fire to Tin Can Port complex
The Police on Thursday arraigned two men, Muritala Makanjuola (40) and Suleimon Saka (19) before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos, for allegedly setting fire to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) container complex at Tin Can Island Port Complex, Lagos.

The defendants were arraigned on a one-count charge of setting a property ablaze.

The prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen told the court that the defendants committed the offence on February 3, 2018 at about 5:30pm at NPA Container Complex, PTML, Tin Can Island, Apapa.

Esebamen said that the defendants unlawfully set fire to Suit 41 of NPA Container Complex occupied by one Jonathan Owoh.

The value of property damaged was N2.5 million.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 341(a) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In his ruling, Magistrate Mukaila Fadeyi granted the defendants bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

He adjourned the case till March 21, 2018.
