WACT-APM Terminals Nigeria Launches Inaugural Football Tournament to Strengthen Maritime Community Bonds

 

The West Africa Container Terminal, WACT-APM Terminals Nigeria, a leading container terminal operator at Onne Port, Rivers State, has announced its inaugural APMT-WACT Super Cup tournament.

This landmark event is set to unite key players from government agencies, the private sector, and the maritime community.

Scheduled to run from November 25 to December 6, 2024, the event promises camaraderie, competition, and a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship.

Featuring 10 teams divided into two groups, the event will showcase the dynamism of stakeholders across the Onne Port and Oil and Gas Free Zone.

Group A consists of WACT, licensed customs agents, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). Group B comprises Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON)/National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Nigerian Navy, and Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA).

Innocent Ogbuji, General Manager and Head of Government and Public Relations at WACT-APM Terminals Nigeria, emphasised the importance of this initiative in fostering stronger ties within the maritime sector.

“In an environment like the Onne Port and the Oil and Gas Free Zone, collaboration and teamwork are essential for seamless operations. This tournament demonstrates our commitment to collaboration, good work life balance and recreation. It serves as a platform to strengthen relationships, celebrate shared goals, and highlight the passion and talent that drives this community forward,” said Ogbuji.

He added, “As the football event unfolds, we anticipate intense matches, unforgettable moments, and a celebration of sportsmanship. Notwithstanding that it is a competition, we encourage all players to be safety conscious as offending players will be penalised and suspended from playing. Let all stakeholders come together and support their favorite teams, creating an electrifying atmosphere.”

The event underscores WACT-APMT Nigeria’s commitment to community engagement and its leadership in promoting unity across the maritime industry.
