World Container Index down by 2.8%

World Contained Index down by 5.6%

 

The composite index decreased 2.8% this week and, conversely 5.4% up when compared with same period of 2019.

The average composite index of the WCI, assessed by Drewry for year-to-date, is US $1,806 per 40ft container, which is $410 higher than the five-year average of $1,396 per 40ft container.

Drewry’s composite World Container Index inched down 2.8% or $52 to $1780.68 per 40ft container this week however, 5.4% above the previous year level. Spot rates on Shanghai to Los Angeles and Los Angeles to Shanghai tumbled by $165 and $115 respectively to reach $1626 and $406 per 40ft box. In the same way, freight rates from Rotterdam – New York slashed $126 and stood at $2415 per feu. On the Contrary, rates on Shanghai – New York developed 9% to $2814 per 40ft container. Drewry expects rates to remain steady in the next week.
