Two women, IyaboDunyinle and Patience Pemi, on Thursday appeared before a Federal High Court in Lagos charged with vandalism and theft of petroleum products.
The accused, who are residents of Alayo village on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, are standing trial on a two-count charge of vandalism and stealing petroleum products.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following an oral application for bail by their counsel, MrYemiAjao, the trial judge, Justice OkonAbang, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N1 miilion each with one surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case to March 11, 2015 for trial.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Daniel Apochi, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 9 at about 5.00 a.m.
He said that the accused were apprehended by the police on a tip off and about 11,000 litres of petrol was recovered from them.
Apochi said that the product was extracted from a vandalised pipeline in the locality and was to be sold.
He said that the value of the product was estimated at N1.1 million.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 390 and 516 of Criminal Code Act, Cap C38, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
