The Apapa Area command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it collected a total of N114.9 billion revenue between January and May, 2014 as revenue into the Federation and non-Federation accounts.
The command said it also transferred no fewer than 150 containers weekly to Inland Container Deports ICDs, in Kano and Kaduna, as part of measures to check cargo congestion at the ports.
Of the total revenue, N53.9 billion was paid into the Federation Account comprising N9.3 billion paid in January, N9.7 billion paid in the month of February, N9.1 billion paid in March while N13.9 billion and 11.9 billion was paid in April and May respectively even as the rest, which cover fees and levies were paid into the non-Federation Account.
Details of the revenue figures released by the command shows that a total of N19.1 billion was collected in January 2014 while N17.1 billion was collected in February.
The report also shows that this figure increased to N19.2 billion in March and further rose to an all time high of N29.3 billion in April while N28.2 billion was collected by the command in May.
A total of N51.5 billion was collected on import duty for the five-month period while the five per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) accounted for N23.4 billion.
Meanwhile the command collected a total of N10.7 billion from the 20 per cent levy imposed on imported brown and parboiled rice.
