Customs impounds 317 bags of rice concealed with animal skin

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it confiscated 317 bags of foreign parboiled rice of 50kg each, concealed in a truck transporting animal skin.

The seizure, according to a statement by the Service was made by officers attached to the Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’ Ikeja Lagos led by OC monitoring Team B Idiroko Axis, DSC Ogundeyi, along Atan-Ota, Idiroko road. 

The statement said the goods were neatly concealed to deceive the public that the truck was only carrying animal skin.

But after a thorough search, it was discovered that the MAN diesel truck with registration number: NNE 34G ZG was transporting 317 bags of foreign parboiled rice with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N2.06million.

“The impact of intelligence sharing cannot be over emphasized as the concealment of this goods was neatly done to deceive the public that the truck was only carrying animal skin.

“After thorough examination, it was realized that the rice were packed 4 per 600kg making it look like it was all animal skin,” the statement said.

The Service said investigation would reveal where and how the culprits got the animal skin.
