There was pandemonium on Friday along the ever busy Apapa-Oshodi expressway when a young motor boy was allegedly shot dead by a naval officer.
The incident which occured in the early hours of that fateful day witnessed the killing of the motorboy who was identified simply as Lekan when he allegedly refused to give in to the request of N500 bribe by a naval rating who was part of a naval patrol team.
The killing of the motorboy , according to eyewitness accounts, resulted in a traffic gridlock that stretched all the way from Liverpool to Mile 2 and lasted for hours.
SHIPS & PORTS DAILY learnt that in anger over what they described as the gruesome murder of their own, petroleum tanker drivers staged a protest, which resulted in the traffic gridlock, demanding for justice.
It was also learnt that there was a face-off between the tanker drivers and security officials, which resulted in gun shots, when the drivers tried to storm the Trinity Police Station to express their grievance.
As at press time, the whereabouts of the trigger-happy naval rating was yet to be ascertained
