A 20-year-old man, Christian Okuoyibo, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly hitting a soldier, Staff Sergeant Ime Udo Udo of Nigerian Army with stick which inflicted serious injury on his head.
Okuoyibo is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and assault.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 14, 2019 at about 8:35am in Ojo Cantonment, Lagos.
“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace and unlawfully assaulted one Staff Sergeant Ime Udo Udo of Nigerian Army by using stick which inflicted serious injury on his head,” Ekpo said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 168(d) and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
Magistrate L.O Kazeem granted him N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
The surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till October 2, 2019 for mention.
