The police on Thursday arraigned seven men before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stabbing a naval officer and stealing a Bajaj motorcycle in Apapa.
The seven men are Kudus Opeyemi (20), Emeka Egwu (18), Kazeem Kareem (22), Ejike Egwu (20), Ididon Peter (18), Uwana Peter (18) and Eduke Joseph (18). They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and assault.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on May 24, 2019 at about 9pm at Tunkarimu and Ugbewankwo Streets, Ajegunle, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together with others at large and being armed with cutlasses, daggers and other offensive weapons stole one Bajaj motorcycle valued at N150,000 property of one Michael Biobaku,” Aigbokhan said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendants assaulted one Ebi Matthew, a naval officer, by stabbing him on his hand with a broken bottle, which caused him bodily harm.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 297(2)(a)(b) and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko ordered the case file to be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice and the defendants be remanded in Kirikiri prison.
She adjourned the case till July 9, 2019 for mention.
