8 teenage footballers die as vehicle plunges into river

 

 

No fewer than eight teenage footballers have been confirmed dead while 30 others sustained injuries as the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and plunged into a river in Ghana. 

The driver of their bus reportedly lost control and plunged into the river in the country’s Ashanti region.

The footballers were returning from Afrancho, a community in the Ashanti region.

Commander of the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department, Edmund Nyamekye, told said four of the injured had been rushed to hospital and were in critical condition.

He said investigation was underway to determine the cause of the accident.

Meanwhile the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has expressed its condolences to the families of deceased teenage footballers.

“The GFA wishes to express our deepest condolences to the families of the eight young footballers who passed away after the car they were traveling on submerged,” the GFA said in a statement.
