Railway workers suspend strike 

Workers of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) have suspended their three-day warning strike following resolutions made by concerned authority.

The suspension of the strike was announced in a communiqué of resolutions jointly signed by President General, Senior Staff Association (SSA), Nigerian Railway Corporation, Aliyu Mainasara; President, Nigeria Union of Railway Workers, Innocent Ajiji and Director Admin/Human Resources, Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Monsurat Omotayo, after meetings with the NRC Board, the Federal Ministry of Transport (FMOT), and NRC management in Abuja and Lagos.

The workers resolved that a committee be set up with immediate effect on the review of the standard condition of service with timeline lasting to the 31st day of January 2022. It was agreed that the personal data on deceased workers be collected for processing and immediate payment as every worker is already covered by the group life assurance scheme.

The parties also agreed that all the train crews be given insurance cover as the train passengers and the goods in transit.

Also, enhanced salary regime have been taken up as a priority by the NRC Board and FMOT with a view to securing approval for implementation in the earliest time possible;

The parties also agreed that no member of staff shall be victimized as a result of his/her participation in the industrial action.
