The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a significant seizure of expired and controlled pharmaceutical products with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N1.8 billion.
Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who announced the seizure in Lagos on Thursday, said the items would have undermined national security and fueled criminal activities if allowed to exit the ports.
The seized items included expired and unregistered pharmaceutical products, such as tramadol, codeine, and other controlled substances.
Twelve containers were seized due to false declarations, expired products, and lack of necessary regulatory requirements, including National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) numbers.
Adeniyi commended the Apapa Command and its officers for the seizure and advised port users to engage in legitimate trade.
He said the seizure highlights the NCS’s commitment to protecting national security and public health.
