Japan’s six major ports processed 1.17 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in July, marking a 3.3% year-on-year growth. This represents the fourth consecutive month of rising container throughput. Export volumes reached 571,534 TEUs, up 3.3%, while imports rose 3.2% to 594,158 TEUs.
Data from Japan’s transport ministry revealed that Tokyo handled 346,740 TEUs, a 3.5% increase, with exports totaling 156,341 TEUs (up 2.3%) and imports rising to 190,399 TEUs (up 4.6%).
Kawasaki saw a sharp decline, with throughput dropping 16.3% to 6,096 TEUs after five months of double-digit growth. Exports from Kawasaki fell 21.4%, while imports decreased by 11.8%.
Yokohama port experienced a positive 3.4% growth, processing 237,988 TEUs. Exports rose 4.9% to 126,093 TEUs, and imports grew 1.8% to 111,895 TEUs.
Nagoya handled 219,028 TEUs, a 3.5% increase, with exports up 3.6% to 112,240 TEUs and imports also up 3.5% to 106,788 TEUs.
Osaka processed 172,573 TEUs, growing by 3.4%, with exports increasing 1.6% to 76,818 TEUs and imports rising 4.8% to 95,755 TEUs.
Kobe recorded 183,267 TEUs, up 2.9%, with exports increasing 4.9% to 97,317 TEUs and imports rising slightly by 0.9% to 85,950 TEUs.
