The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the cancellation of all import declarations made during the implementation of the now-suspended 4% Free-on-Board (FOB) charge on imports.
This move is aimed at ensuring clarity and consistency in customs operations while preventing disruptions in the clearance process.
In a statement released on Monday, Customs spokesman Abdullahi Maiwada, an Assistant Comptroller of Customs, urged affected importers, customs agents, and stakeholders to recapture their declarations to facilitate the clearance of their goods.
“All stakeholders affected are urged to promptly recapture their entries through the designated customs processing platforms,” Maiwada stated.
He assured that measures have been put in place to ensure a seamless process, with Customs Commands nationwide directed to provide necessary assistance and clarifications to importers and agents requiring support.
The decision follows the recent suspension of the 4% FOB charge on imports, which had sparked concerns among traders and other stakeholders.
The Customs Service reiterated its commitment to implementing government fiscal policies in line with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and emphasized that the cancellation of previous declarations is part of broader efforts to enhance efficiency and transparency.
He said under the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the NCS remains dedicated to fostering open engagement with stakeholders.
The agency encouraged traders to take advantage of this opportunity to avoid further delays in clearing their consignments.
