The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that Wednesday, 1 October 2025, will be observed as a public holiday in celebration of the nation’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released on Monday in Abuja through the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
Extending congratulations to Nigerians at home and abroad, the Minister called on citizens to uphold the values of patriotism, unity and resilience that have underpinned the country since its independence in 1960.
He further encouraged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda”, which he said is focused on national renewal, economic transformation and shared prosperity.
Expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future, Tunji-Ojo emphasised that with collective effort and cooperation, the nation would continue to strengthen its foundations of peace, progress and development.
The Minister concluded by wishing Nigerians a joyful and memorable Independence Day in 2025.
