The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has added another feather to his cap as he was conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Leadership and Strategic Studies by the Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State, on Saturday.
The conferment took place during the university’s convocation ceremony, where dignitaries from across the country gathered to celebrate academic excellence and leadership achievements.
The attainment marks yet another milestone in the distinguished career of the Customs chief, who has been widely recognised for his reform-driven leadership and contributions to Nigeria’s trade facilitation and border management.
Adeniyi’s doctoral research, it was learnt, focused on strategic leadership and institutional transformation — an area that resonates strongly with his ongoing efforts to reposition the Nigeria Customs Service for greater efficiency, transparency, and global competitiveness.
Since assuming office as Comptroller-General in June 2023, Dr Adeniyi has championed numerous reforms aimed at modernising Customs operations, enhancing revenue collection, and strengthening the fight against smuggling.
Under his leadership, the Service has deepened its digitalisation drive, expanded inter-agency collaboration, and promoted a culture of professionalism within its ranks.
Since joining the Nigeria Customs Service, he has served in various strategic positions, including as the National Public Relations Officer of the Service — a role in which he distinguished himself as an articulate spokesperson and bridge between the NCS and the public.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and a Master’s degree in Communication Science from the Universiti Putra Malaysia.
His academic and professional pursuits reflect a consistent commitment to excellence, capacity development, and institutional innovation.
