The Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr Adewale Adeniyi, has been elected President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), pledging to usher in a new era of reform, professionalism, and accountability within the sport.
The election took place on Saturday, 25 October 2025, at the Gymnasium Hall, Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, under the supervision of the National Sports Commission.
The process was widely praised by athletes and sports administrators, who described the outcome as a positive and strategic step for Nigerian sports.
Adeniyi, who also heads the Nigeria Customs Service, is no stranger to sports administration. Under his leadership, the Customs Sports Unit has evolved into one of the country’s most formidable forces in sports development, nurturing national champions and Olympians across several disciplines.
Speaking after his victory, Adeniyi commended the ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s sports sector and expressed confidence in their long-term impact.
He stressed the importance of structure, transparency, and sound governance in sustaining progress across sporting federations.
“I’m beginning to see the dividends of the reforms that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is putting into the sports sector — putting the right people in place, the right processes, and the right systems to drive the electoral process. I am quite satisfied, and I feel this is an environment where I can work and thrive,” he said.
Adeniyi added that his administration would align the Federation’s vision with national sports policies, focusing on integrity, athlete development, and innovation in the sport’s management.
