Fatima Sugra Mahmood has officially assumed duty as the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, following a formal handover ceremony in Abuja today, where she took over from Olufemi Oloruntola.

Speaking at the event, Mahmood pledged to provide steady administrative leadership for the ministry, stressing the importance of teamwork, professionalism and continuity in advancing its mandate.

She called on directors and staff to support her in delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in strengthening the ministry’s contribution to national development and the growth of the blue economy.

Mahmood said she would build on existing structures and processes to ensure effective policy implementation and service delivery, noting that collaboration across departments would be critical to achieving the ministry’s objectives.

In his remarks, Oloruntola formally handed over the responsibilities of office and reflected on his career in the civil service, which began in 1990 and culminated in his retirement after 35 years of service.

He thanked management and staff of the ministry for their cooperation over the years and wished his successor success in her new role.

Mahmood brings extensive experience to her new position, having previously served as Permanent Secretary, Career Management Office (CMO) in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
