The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Barr. Akutah Pius Ukeyima, has been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in International Criminal Law by Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
The conferment took place on Saturday during the university’s 8th combined convocation ceremony, which also marked its 25th anniversary.
Reflecting on the milestone, Dr. Akutah described the convocation as the culmination of a seven-year academic journey. Although he completed the requirements for the degree in 2024, he noted that he had to wait until the official convocation ceremony for the formal award.
He explained that his pursuit of a PhD was driven by a passion for teaching and knowledge-sharing. “As a teacher of International Criminal Law, I have trained lawyers, prosecutors, and judges in different jurisdictions around the world. Pursuing a PhD is just a step forward in the journey of what I love,” he said.
Dr. Akutah also stressed the importance of lifelong learning, noting that continuous education is essential for personal and professional growth.
“It is very important for everyone because as long as you don’t stop living, you have to continue learning. For anyone who wants to prepare for tomorrow’s leadership, continuous education is key,” he added.
