The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has donated security equipment to the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command to strengthen security across Nigeria’s seaports.
The equipment was handed over on Wednesday at the Command’s headquarters in Lagos by the Port Manager of the Lagos Port Complex Apapa, Adebowale Lawal, who represented the NPA Managing Director, Dr Abubakar Dantsoho.
Lawal said the donation reflects the Authority’s commitment to protecting critical maritime infrastructure, enhancing security and ensuring the safety of port users and waterfront operations.
He said the operational equipment would improve the effectiveness of the Ports Authority Police in safeguarding the nation’s seaports and preventing security breaches.
The donated items include bulletproof vests, tactical helmets, operational boots, batons, handcuffs, raincoats and high-intensity flashlights to boost the preparedness, efficiency and safety of officers across the Western Command.
Receiving the equipment, the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja, thanked the NPA for the intervention, describing it as a testament to the strong partnership between the Authority and the Nigeria Police Force in securing the nation’s maritime domain.
Agbaminoja assured the NPA that the equipment would be effectively deployed to strengthen policing, deter criminal activities and ensure the ports remain safe and secure for trade. She also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to working with maritime stakeholders to uphold international safety standards across Nigeria’s western seaports.
