Chairman, Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO), Chief Remi Ogungbemi, said yesterday that the trucks holding bay being built opposite Tin Can Island Port Complex in Apapa, Lagos, would ease traffic congestion along roads leading to ports.
Ogungbemi stated this while speaking with newsmen in Lagos.
He said that the new facility would assist port stakeholders in their daily businesses.
According to Ogungbemi, the bay, which is being constructed by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, would accommodate 1,500 vehicles per time.
He said the challenges faced by his members in the hands of security operatives at the port during gridlock will come to an end with the operation of the holding bay.
“The truck bay is what we are looking forward to from government as major stakeholders in the sector,” Ogungbemi said.
He advised that the government and truck owners should partner in managing the facility to forestall friction.
