Adeniyi Issues Riot Act to Customs Anti-Corruption Unit Members

Adeniyi tours Customs HQ, promises to enhance staff welfare

As part of efforts to boost integrity within the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has issued the riot act to newly inaugurated Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) members at the Customs Headquarters in Abuja.

This follows a recent partnership between NCS and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Representing the CGC, Deputy Comptroller-General Aliyu Alajogun underscored the importance of tackling corruption directly.

“Our operations must be free from corruption, upholding the highest ethical standards to strengthen our economic stability and global reputation,” Alajogun remarked.

He urged the ACTU members to lead the fight against corruption, environmental crimes, and misconduct within the Service, emphasising collaboration, technology, and innovation.

ICPC’s Acting Director of the System Study and Review Department, Olusegun Adigun, commended the CGC for prioritising transparency, highlighting the partnership’s role in fostering accountability and integrity.

“This initiative empowers ACTU to deliver on its mandate, including anti-corruption training and systems reviews,” Adigun stated, urging members to uphold integrity and avoid any form of oppression.

ACTU Chairman, Comptroller Emmanuel Osogba, pledged to enhance transparency across Customs operations by establishing clear guidelines, promoting reporting mechanisms, and fostering trust within the Service. “Together, we can create a legacy of transparency that improves public perception and strengthens our integrity,” he noted.

The ACTU members took their Oath of Allegiance, administered by Barrister Nkem Ezenwa, marking the start of their three-year tenure.
