Former Chief Accountant of NALComet Shipping Group, Pastor Bashiru Adesina unveiled his biography, “Bashiru Alani Adesina: Glorious Living and Service,” on September 25th.
The event attracted prominent figures from various sectors, particularly the maritime industry, who gathered to celebrate his life and achievements.
The book, a detailed account of Adesina’s journey, was reviewed by Professor Oluwakayode Oyediran.
Oyediran described the book as a testament to Adesina’s resilience, unwavering focus, and determination to overcome life’s challenges. According to Oyediran, the biography captures how Adesina triumphed over adversity through steadfastness and hard work, eventually rising to the pinnacle of success.
He highlighted not only Adesina’s professional excellence but also his devotion to the service of God. He recounted how Adesina’s talent for bookkeeping was first discovered by his mother in their hometown of Abule-Panu, near Abeokuta, where he meticulously managed her business records.
Adesina’s early exposure to Christianity began at the age of six when he attended Christ African Church Primary School in Igbore, Abeokuta. His academic journey continued at Ibadan Polytechnic, where he earned a Diploma in Accounting, followed by passing the ICAN exams to become a Chartered Accountant.
In 1984, Adesina became the first Chief Accountant of Nigeria America Line (NAL), which later evolved into the NALComet Shipping Group, expanding its operations across the maritime sector.
Professor Oyediran praised Adesina’s role in the company’s growth and his adept handling of relationships with government agencies such as NIMASA, NPA, FIRS, and Lagos State’s Internal Revenue Service.
A significant milestone in Adesina’s career was his appointment as Executive Administrator of the Nigeria/Brazil Shipping Conference. During this period, he represented NALComet in shaping Nigeria’s national shipping policy, working closely with top NPA and civil service officials.
In his speech, Pastor Adesina expressed gratitude to those who supported his career, particularly acknowledging General Theophilus Danjuma, Chief Musa Danjuma, Mr. Pier Luigi Carrodano, Mr. Roderick Roy Nazzari, Ms. Gloria Danjuma, and Mr. Joachim Theaukuf. He credited them with helping develop Comet Shipping Agencies into a leading entity and advancing Nigeria’s maritime industry.
Adesina also extended special thanks to Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, for inspiring him from childhood, as well as to his brother, Mr. Bade Adesina, and his wife, Mrs. Victoria Adesina, for their unwavering support throughout his journey.
