Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has announced a renewed and strengthened security partnership with the Nigerian Navy during a visit by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, in Uyo.
Governor Eno emphasised that safeguarding the state’s critical assets remains a top priority, noting that Akwa Ibom’s extensive coastline — the longest in Nigeria and West Africa — demands heightened maritime vigilance.
He praised the Navy’s ongoing efforts in protecting coastal communities and called for deeper collaboration to counter rising maritime threats, particularly those affecting vital oil and gas infrastructure.
According to the governor, an enhanced naval presence is essential to maintaining security and supporting the state’s economic stability.
Vice Admiral Abbas described his visit as both a courtesy call and part of his operational tour, reaffirming Akwa Ibom’s strategic value to Nigeria’s economy.
He stressed the importance of fully securing the state’s assets as the Navy intensifies its operational readiness.
Both leaders affirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation to protect lives, property, and the energy resources that underpin national development.
