APM Terminals Kano has reported a record 51% increase in Through Bill of Lading (TBL) volumes for the first half of 2025, covering the period from January to June.
Terminal Manager, Steen Knudsen, said the growth compared with the same period in 2024 was the result of coordinated efforts between the Kano and Apapa teams to ensure the seamless movement of cargo to and from the hinterland via Apapa Port.
Knudsen also revealed that in May 2025 the terminal achieved its highest monthly gate-out performance since January 2024, handling 139 container units — more than in any month of the previous year’s first half. He described the milestone as a reflection of the Kano team’s commitment to operational excellence, noting that the adoption of Lean methodologies, process standardisation, and the elimination of inefficiencies had played a key role in boosting performance and setting a new benchmark.
He added that the recent growth in volumes underscored the impact of strategic investments at the Kano facility, including the refurbishment of office spaces, the yard, and yard equipment.
The terminal recently completed a significant upgrade to its infrastructure, with renovated gate and security offices designed to enhance operational efficiency and safety.
Looking ahead, the company plans to install solar power systems to supply gate and yard lighting, in line with its “Go Green” sustainability strategy aimed at cutting CO₂ emissions and improving environmental performance.
