Armed Men Attack Customs Patrol Base, Kill One Officer, Abduct Another

Gunmen kill 4 naval ratings, abduct foreigners in Bayelsa

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kebbi Area Command, has launched a manhunt for armed men who attacked its Koko Besse patrol base last Thursday.

The attackers, suspected to be members of a smuggling syndicate, killed Assistant Superintendent of Customs Dabo Umar and abducted Superintendent of Customs Babagana Abba Kabiru.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Mohammed Tajuddeen Salisu, the armed men destroyed properties and targeted officers, possibly in retaliation for the Command’s recent crackdown on smuggling activities.

The command has vowed to continue its efforts to protect national interests, despite the attack.

The Customs Area Controller, Iheanacho Ernest Ojike, has commiserated with the family of the deceased officer and prayed for the release of the abducted officer.

The command said it will provide updates as the situation develops.
