The 11-man panel constituted by the Lagos State to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the boat mishap which occurred on the Ikorodu lagoon on April 2nd, 2014, has submitted its report to the government.
With the report turned in, the state Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa, said the government would stop at nothing in the effort to ensure zero mishap on the waterways.
According to Opeifa, the government is taking a step further to launch an insurance scheme for all categories of passengers on the waterways, rail and road in the state.
He assured that the report of the committee and its recommendations would be made public and implemented in order to ensure the safety of passengers on the waterways.
Chairman of the committee, Olajide Tairu, commended the government for giving the members the opportunity to serve the state.
The commissioner, it would be recalled, constituted the 11-man inter-ministerial committee on boat mishap on April 11, 2014, charging them to ascertain and determine the immediate and remote causes of the April 2nd, 2014 boat mishap in Ikorodu and such other incidents including the roles of all concerned as well as make necessary recommendations to avoid reoccurrence and promote safe practices.
