President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday made his largest set of appointments since assuming office as he appointed Board chairmen and members of various federal government agencies including the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), the Council for Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria.
The president appointed 209 board chairmen and 1,258 board members, according to a statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Buhari appointed Hon. Mai Mala Buni as the Chairman of Nigerian Shippers’ Council Board while Otunba Seyi Oduntan, Yekini Nabena, Lawal Yakawada, Hauwa Mohammed, Mohammd Daiyabu, Muhd-Danjuma Mohammed, Angulu Lolo and Surv. Lekan Adekanbi were appointed as Board members.
Admiral Ibrahim Iko was appointed NIWA Board Chairman while the Board members are Barr. Ejike Anakani, Munir Uthman Mohammed, Hajiya Hauwa Gadaka, Ezekiel Adetunloro and Dr. John Harry.
Lagos-based politician and former Minister of State for Defence, Demola Seriki was appointed MAN Oron Board Chairman while the Board members are Taiwo Tayo Ibitola, Hon. Garba Jiji and Sale Kuidawa.
The appointed Governing Council members of the CRFFN include Hon. Donatu Ozoemena, Benson Edosomwan, Abubakar Tsanni, Hassan Jonga, Sen. Bisi Oyewo and Otunba Moshood Tijani. The Chairman, according to the statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, will emerge through an election of the council.
Dr. Fred Latimo Oghenesube was appointed as NITT’s Board Chairman while Musa Dankadai, Ishiaku Daniel, Sani Bako Kangiwa, Martins Usman, Hon. Adamu Bullachuwa, Muhammed Imam, Hajia Fati N. Abubakar and Agboola Kelly emerged as the Board members.

The SGF’s statement reads: “The President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the constitution of the Governing Boards of Agencies and Parastatals, under some Ministries, as well as the appointment of eminently qualified Nigerians to fill the Board positions, numbering 209 Chairmen and 1258 members.
“Mr. President considered the approval for the constitution of the Boards as well as the appointments, very necessary, so as to provide a proper Governance and oversight structure for Government Agencies and Parastatals. The constitution of the boards with the appointments, is a demonstration of this Government’s efforts aimed at building strong institutions of Governance, and by extension, improving the quality of Policy formulation and supervision.
“While these appointments represent a substantial number of hitherto pending board appointments, some more appointments are still being processed and will be released in due course.
“The appointments take immediate effect and Honourable Ministers are advised to inaugurate the boards after letters of appointment have been issued.”
