The Peoples Democratic Party has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressive Congress (APC) for allegedly appropriating the Abuja-Kaduna Standard Gauge Rail Line Project.
It said that the project was conceptualised, awarded and constructed when it (the PDP) was in power.
The PDP stated this in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday which was signed by its spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye.
The statement said that the railway project was conceptualised by the President Olusegun Obasanjo administration.
It added that successive PDP administrations of President Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan, commenced work and built the project to 99 per cent completion.
Adeyeye added that the only work done by President Muhammadu Buhari on the project was Tuesday’s commissioning.
He said the usual rhetoric of the APC had always been that the 16 years of PDP’s rule were years of waste asking if the railway project was also a waste.
He said, “The truth which history will bear out is that the PDP in its 16 years of rule successfully completed numerous projects that substantively changed the infrastructural landscape of Nigeria.
“Everyone of those 16 years were years of great productivity with remarkable landmark achievements.
“This is very much unlike the APC which has already wasted one full year without even scratching one square meter of ground anywhere in the country”.
Adeyeye said that “if morning truly shows the day, then we can say that Nigeria is now really in the era of waste and stagnation.”
