A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has nullified the dismissal of a former managing director of Nigerdock Nigeria Plc, Dr. Nnamdi Victor Ozobia.
The court presided over by Justice Okon Abang ruled that Ozobia’s sack in 2001 was at variance with public service rules through which he was hired.
Consequently, Justice Abang ruled that all salaries, entitlements and promotions due to Ozobia should be given to him, while the court also awarded N100,000 in his favour.
Ozobia started his career in the Federal Civil Service Commission, which later transferred him to the Federal Ministry of Transport, from where he became site engineer and later became pioneer managing director of Nigerdock.
In 2001, former Transport Minister, Chief Ojo Maduekwe set up a panel of enquiry, which indicted him of gross misconduct.
Based on the report, the former Nigerdock boss was dismissed through a news broadcast on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and was dragged before a Magistrate Court and later to a Federal High Court on criminal charges.
Nigerdock was privatised to a private company over ten years ago.
