Eyewitness accounts explained that the agents shut down the terminal after making no headway in their discussions with the PTML Management over the latter’s demand of terminal delivery orders (TDOs) on consignments which delivery could not be taken last week because of system failure, among other issues.
Speaking with SHIPS & PORTS DAILY, Chairman PTML Chapter of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Cosmas Ndimkora, claimed that PTML is trying to browbeat agents into accepting demurrage charges without considering certainfactors that could delay an agent in taking delivery of a consignment.
He said: “This shipping company is taking us for a ride and we just wanted to bare our fangs a little. You know for almost three days in the last week, the servers were down but our boys decided to pay for these days because they didn’t want to blame anybody for the problem. They paid till Saturday but the shipping company was unable to give them TDO. This morning they went to take delivery and were asked to go back again and pay about fourteen thousand naira extra! Why?” .
