The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has applauded the Ogun II Area Command for its outstanding revenue performance, which saw a 40% increase in the first four months of 2025 compared to the same period last year.
During a visit to the Command headquarters in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Adeniyi praised the efforts of the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Bisi Alade, and his team.
The Command generated ₦15.191 billion between January and April 2025, up from ₦9.165 billion in 2024.
Describing the visit as a morale booster, Alade welcomed the CGC and senior officials with optimism.
“Your presence here is not only encouraging but also a clear sign of your dedication to every arm of the Service,” he said. “It has inspired our personnel and reinforced our commitment to upholding the Service’s mandate with renewed vigour.”
Alade attributed the revenue growth to the strategic significance of Ogun II, which oversees three Free Trade Zones, 67 excise factories, and a bonded terminal.
He reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to professionalism and alignment with the CG’s ongoing reform agenda.
However, Alade did not shy away from highlighting the Command’s pressing needs. He cited inadequate operational vehicles, limited medical lab equipment, dilapidated staff quarters, poor borehole infrastructure, and the lack of solar power for the office complex as key operational challenges.
Responding to these concerns, CGC Adeniyi assured that the Customs headquarters would assess and address the issues.
He urged officers to embrace continuous professional development, noting that competence, knowledge, and dedication are vital to fulfilling the Service’s responsibilities effectively.
The CGC also acknowledged the role of Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in positioning the state as a hub of industrial growth.
“Ogun’s proximity to the Republic of Benin and its expanding industrial base make it a vital part of Nigeria’s economic strategy,” Adeniyi said.
He reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to partnering with the Ogun State Government and other security agencies, calling for greater inter-agency collaboration to promote economic progress and regional stability.
