Customs officer-Nun sex-for-cargo saga gets messier
… As Rev Sister indicts NAGAFF, Tin-Can Area PRO
The last may not have been heard about the festering sordid story of the Officer-in-Charge of the Legal Unit, Tin-Can Island Port Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Chief Superintendent O Customs Ibrahim Badisha, who has been accused by Reverend Sister Catherine Gift Elias of alleged sexual harassment in the course of processing a consignment for clearance.
The said consignment, according to the Reverend Sister, has since been impounded by the Customs, allegedly at the instigation of Badisha, because she would not acceed to his alleged depraved sexual advances.
Elias, in the company of another Reverend Sister, also of the Catholic charity, the Daughters Eternal Father Mission, Reverend Sister Caroline Ekah, yesterday at the International Maritime Press Centre, Apapa, Lagos, narrated a heart-rending tale of her ordeal at the hands of Badisha.
Bravely subsuming her discomfort at having to relate the still-unfolding sex-for-cargo saga, Elisha, with touching child-like quality, narrated how Badisha has persistently, in words and actions, made life a misery for her, as he harassed her sexually, to the consternation of even certain fellow Customs personnel.
The Reverend Sister also informed the journalists that the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) had demanded and collected the sum of N50,000.00 from the charity, through one of her colleagues, ostensibly to get Badisha release the impounded consignment.
NAGAFF, according to her, in spite of the N50,000.00, the association termed “consultancy fees”, reneged on the said agreement.
The Reverend Sister equally indicted the Customs Public Relations Officer of the Tin-Can Island Port Area Command, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Chris Osunkwo, for compounding her agony by allegedly calling her “Badisha’s wife” to her face, whenever she sought his intercession in the matter.
