The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted 248,500 tablets of Tramadol Hydrochloride in Yobe State, a controlled drug shipment valued at about N273.35m.
Controller of the Federal Operations Unit Zone D in Bauchi, Abdullahi Ka’ila, said the seizure followed intelligence reports about a suspected consignment moving through covert routes in Gumsi Village, Nguru Local Government Area. Acting on the information, customs officers launched a surveillance operation that led to the discovery of the drugs.
Ka’ila revealed that the suspect fled into nearby bushland after spotting patrol vehicles, but the operation successfully disrupted a trafficking network believed to have links beyond Nigeria’s borders.
He said the interception would help curb drug abuse, particularly among young people, while also dealing a blow to organised crime and illegal imports.
Customs, he added, will continue working with agencies such as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to strengthen enforcement and encourage communities to report suspicious activities.
