Dangote truck driver admits stealing diesel at Apapa port

At the Apapa Magistrates’ Court yesterday, a 30-year-old Dangote truck driver, Aliyu Ango was docked for allegedly stealing 200 litres of diesel belonging to Greenview Development Nigeria Limited (GDNL). GDNL, an arm of Dangote Group, is the operator of Terminal E, Lagos Port Complex, Apapa. 

The truck driver pleaded guilty to the three-count charges.

The Police Prosecutor told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 15, 2017 at about 5:30am at GDNL terminal. 

He said the truck driver broke the diesel tank cover valued at N15,000 property of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Fire Service unit attached to the terminal. He also stole 200 litres of diesel worth N40,000 belonging to GDNL. 

The port prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 310 (c), 307 (1) & (2) criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Mrs Alaka adjourned the case till April 19, 2017 for facts and sentence.
